From Barcelona – ‘Jazz Catalonia’ – we are fortunate as the premier Welsh jazz festival to be able to present a completely unique performance at BJF2022 – Really not to be missed!

Joan Chamorro is a remarkable musician with over 100 albums to his name. He performs regularly with with Scott Hamilton, Joe Magnarelli, Joel Frahm, Tete Montoliu, Dick Oatts, Scott Robinson, Bebo Valdes, Jessy Davis, Terell Stafford, and many more. Joan Chamorro is also an internationally acclaimed educator who runs master classes all over the world. In 2006, he founded the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, training young people from 8 to 21 and bringing forward names such as Andrea Motis and Rita Payés to the international jazz stage. Joan travels to Brecon for the first time to present some incredible music and musicians including Èlia Bastida, a unique and very special talent.

Barcelona’s Sant Andreu Jazz Band, is primarily an educational project created and directed by Joan Chamorro. Since 2006, this remarkable group of young musicians have taken the jazz world by storm, from Europe to South America, to Japan and Mexico – live in concert as well as via over 500 video clips of their performances on YouTube. The band, mostly perform American jazz standards, bossa nova, and songs of local tradition, but in their own unique way. This is straight ahead jazz and its very best.
