Sir John Lloyd Lecture: Gentry Families and their Poets in Late-Medieval Brecon
The fourteenth to sixteenth centuries were the high point of Welsh praise poetry to the families of local gentry, the uchelwyr. This lecture by Professor Helen Fulton traces some of the history of the lordship of Brecon and its neighbours through the poetry composed to its networks of gentry families, including the Herberts, Games, and Vaughans.

Brecon Jazz Club presents: Tammy Payne Quartet: Celebrating Women in Jazz

MWR&BC Presents Top UK and Estonian blues artists Dave Arcari & Andres Roots play double-header at The Muse Brecon
SCOTLAND’S Dave Arcari teams up with his Estonian pal Andres Roots for an exclusive double-header show for Mid-Wales Rhythm & Blues Club at The Muse, Brecon on Saturday 1 March 2025.
The pair have been pals since 2005 when Roots invited Arcari to Estonia to headline the August ibluus Festival – the biggest blues festival in the Baltic states. Subsequently they have arranged dates for each other in their respective countries on an almost annual basis as well as collaborating on recordings and various other projects.

To celebrate St. Davids Day this year Aidan Thorne and Jason Belll are releasing their first album together ‘Archwilio’r Traddodiad : Exploring the Tradition’ on Cambrian Record. These musicians have worked together in different settings for over 15 years. The music is en exploration of Welsh folk tunes using elements of improvisation, jazz and minimalism under an ambient backdrop.
