Elegant Romantics: BBC National Orchestra of Wales

ROMANTIC ELEGANT ICONIC

Step into an evening of musical enchantment where elegance and romance take centre stage. Fanny Mendelssohn’s Overture opens the night, setting a lush, evocative tone that invites you to be swept away by timeless classics.

As pizzicato accents give way to British bravado, Elgar's revered Cello Concerto follows, capturing the raw emotion of a post-WWI world—its themes assertive yet austere, blending a unique mix of energy and introspective beauty.

For this special concert, BBC NOW is thrilled to introduce the remarkable Bryan Cheng, a multi-award-winning cellist making his debut with our national orchestra as soloist. His extraordinary skill promises to bring Elgar's masterpiece to life with fresh intensity and feeling.

The evening crescendos with Brahms’ powerful Symphony No. 4, a monumental work of stirring emotion and breathtaking grandeur. Leading the orchestra is celebrated Italo-Brazilian conductor Simone Menezes, in her much-anticipated debut with BBC NOW.

Join us for a night where the iconic meets the intimate—an unforgettable journey through some of classical music’s most beloved works. Whether you're a seasoned classical music lover or experiencing these masterpieces for the first time, this concert promises to captivate and inspire.
