Brecon Festival Ballet

When the Brecon Festival Ballet performed The Nutcracker at Theatr Brycheiniog in December 2019, it notched up a lot of firsts. Not only was it the inaugural performance from this new, not-for-profit company, but also the first professional production of the iconic show in Wales and Theatr Brycheiniog’s first full-length, orchestra-accompanied ballet.

Led by Brecon-based Artistic Director Katy Sinnadurai (formerly a ballerina with both the Bavarian State Ballet and London City Ballet), the innovative production was a collaborative community effort. Professional dancers filled the principal parts while local dancers, actors and singers took supporting roles, accompanied by music from the acclaimed Welsh Chamber Orchestra.

The ambitious project was a huge success, playing to a packed Theatr Brycheiniog in the run up to Christmas. After its stellar first outing, Brecon Festival Ballet plans to return for new shows in the future. Visit www.breconfestivalballet.com for further details.
